SOME VELVET MORNING

unnamed

Jep and Dep had a great time in Brissie over the weekend, playing at a lovely little hidden joint, Padre and chatting with Branko on 4ZZZ.

This week we will hit Melbourne again, playing at Some Velvet Morning. Lee and Nancy are one of our biggest influences, so a venue named after one of their songs will be a real treat for us.

The following week we will be playing at The Wheatsheaf in Adelaide on September 21st with Kelly Menhennett as support.

After these shows we will be releasing our debut album WORD GOT OUT on October 23rd and will embark on our little tour to launch it (dates and venues announced soon).

See you in Melbourne!

September shows

Jep and Dep had a killer show at the Petersham Bowling Club last week playing to a full house, supported by Fanny Lumsden and Lacey Cole who stripped their usual configurations from band to duo especially for the night. The crowd was beautiful, yelling for encores and leaving whiskey shots on the stage for Jep. It was a magical night of twinkle lights, local beer and a hushed, silent audience who willingly paid their $5 buck entry fee to support independent music in a venue that does the same. In Sydney, it was so very great to see.

Before Jep and Dep release their debut album  WORD GOT OUT in October, they have some exciting September shows lined up.

SEPTEMBER 5 PADRE BAR BRISBANE

SEPTEMBER 12 SOME VELVET MORNING MELBOURNE

SEPTEMBER 21 THE WHEATSHEAF ADELAIDE

The duo have run out of physical copies of BABE COME DOWN (digital can be bought here), but their vinyl bags will be for sale at their shows.

JEP AND DEP IN NME!!!!!!

WHOAH Jep and Dep in NME Magazine RADAR!!! Thanks so much for Courtney Barnett for the shout out!
“Jep and Dep will melt your heart like a marshmallow at a campfire”.
Thanks to Sean in Manchester for the jpgs!

Also Fantastic Live review in the MUSIC.COM.AU today by Chris Familton of the show supporting the wonderful Tracey McNeil.

Review here.

Jep and Dep have an album on the way and based on their strong set it’s going to be a special thing. They’re a dark, folk-noir Johnny and June with a sound that might cast them serenading in a saloon in a David Lynch-directed spaghetti western. From recent single Babe Come Down to the melancholic drama of You Can’t Hide Your Tears In The Rain, they dialled up a rich sound from just two voices, one guitar and some finger snaps. Between songs, Dep (Darren Cross) offered up some obtusely-angled humour, a nice counterbalance to their songs’ heartache and drama.

“BABE COME DOWN” NEW SINGLE / CLIP

SOME WORDS ABOUT BABE COME DOWN ALREADY…

“…which highlights the duo’s ability to capture and maintain drama and tension in their music via the most simple of instruments, guitar and voice, plus in this case some finger-clicks and string augmentation.” -Americana music Blog, Post To Wire

“…they play music for the soul, just one guitar and two voices…It’s a little melancholy, but after a couple whiskies, you should be tapping your boots and howling at the moon” –Soundproof Kennel

” The new single…has a bit of a Neil Young live at Massey Hall meets Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra swagger to it … maybe even a bit of jolly old St Nick Cave thrown in for good measure.” -Alt Country Music Blog, Dashvilled

Jep and Dep hope you enjoy BABE COME DOWN.

JEP AND DEP SINGLE LAUNCH “BABE COME DOWN”

BABE COME DOWN

“Babe Come Down”

Jep and Dep are Jessica Cassar and Darren Cross, an Alt-Country Acoustic Duo from Camperdown.

Over the last 12 months, since the release of their debut E.P ‘Through The Night’ some very steady momentum has been building.

“Babe Come Down” is the first release from their debut album “Word Got Out” (to be released later this year).

“Babe Come Down” harks back to the way songs were recorded in the 60’s -live and in one take – no autotune- no vocal trickery- just a song, two singers and a vintage acoustic guitar.

The song was mastered by Grammy award winning William Bowden (Goyte, The Church, Tim Finn, Jimmy Little).

Jep and Dep have supported the likes of Johnny Marr (The Smiths), Matt Walker, Mia Dyson, Hatz Fitz and Cara, Deer Tick and Lindi Ortega as well as playing every and any folkie hole in the wall that they can.

They would love for you to be at their Single Launch for Babe Come Down.
